Choosing Between Burial And Cremation

One of the most important choices when arranging a funeral is whether the person will be buried or cremated. For some families, this decision is already known because their loved one expressed a wish during their lifetime. For others, it may be something that needs careful thought.

Burial may be chosen for religious, cultural, personal or family reasons. It provides a physical place to visit and can feel important for families who value a permanent resting place. Burial arrangements may involve choosing or reopening a grave, arranging the cemetery, and understanding any local rules or fees.

Cremation is also a common choice and can offer flexibility. Families may choose to hold a service at a crematorium, church or other venue, followed by cremation. Afterwards, ashes may be kept, buried, scattered or placed in a memorial setting, depending on the family’s wishes.

There is no right or wrong choice. The right decision is the one that reflects the person who has died and feels appropriate for the family.

When helping families choose between burial and cremation, we talk through practical considerations, costs, beliefs, family wishes and any personal touches that may be important.

At Peterson Funeral Directors, we support both burial and cremation arrangements with care and professionalism, ensuring families understand the choices available before making a decision.
