What Is A Direct Cremation?

Direct cremation is a simple and dignified cremation without a formal funeral service beforehand. It may be chosen by families who prefer a private remembrance at another time, or by those who want a more straightforward arrangement.

With a direct cremation, there is usually no attended ceremony at the crematorium. The cremation takes place respectfully and privately, and the ashes are returned or made available afterwards according to the family’s wishes.

Some families choose direct cremation because the person who died asked for something simple. Others may prefer to hold a separate memorial at home, in a favourite place, or at a later date when more people can attend.

It is important to understand that direct cremation does not mean a lower standard of care. At Peterson Funeral Directors, your loved one is treated with dignity, respect and professionalism throughout.

We will explain what is included, what happens at each stage, and what options remain available afterwards. Families can still choose meaningful ways to remember someone, even without a traditional funeral service.

Direct cremation is not right for everyone, but for some families it is a calm, practical and appropriate choice.
